OUR CHILDREN, OUR FUTURE
Soon enough, your child will want to come forward and spend some time with our Pastors, who includes time for conversation with children during Sunday worship. Once dismissed, the children go downstairs for Sunday School. These classes will illustrate the week's lessons and have them ready to go by the time church lets out.
As your child continues to grow, you may consider instruction for Communion or confirmation. Bethany Church is happy to provide the kind pf preparation that will allow your child to mature in the faith into which he or she was baptized, if desired.
Bethany's Sunday School is currently for ages 4-2nd grade happens twice a month, on the first and third Sundays, and to encourage parents to keep older kids in worship on the other Sundays. This gives our children the best of both worlds – an experience of being part of the larger congregation in worship and time to learn and explore with their peers.
The curriculum we use is Spark Lectionary from Spark House. It is published by the ELCA, the progressive mainline arm of the Lutheran church. Each week’s lesson includes time for prayer, for a bible story, for small group conversation, and for fun age-appropriate activities. Each week the children will also receive a family activity sheet which gives questions for family discussion and suggestions for follow-up activities at home.
We are excited to offer this opportunity to our children, and we hope you will find ways to join us as we care for our kids and make room for others.
